"You are brilliant? We hire!"
This is a slogan used by Google. A company that can itself be described as a "Beyond Budgeting pioneer".
What the slogan means is that for the firm, adding talent to its staff does not so much depend on questions like "do we have vacant positions", or on job descriptions, or on plans. But that Google will always be willing to sign up people it believes should be on board, if they are bright and bring the right talents with them.
The slogan also expresses that as someone capable looking for a challenge (or a job) you should never hesitate to get in touch with Google, if you feel you are the right person for them. You simply shouldn´t wait for them to find you either.
So what this statement ultimately says is: We value talent above all. And we mean it!
Talent, after all, is the ultimate resource for any company that strives to make a difference. This goes for any given organization. And it does of course also go for the BBTN.
Founded during the first quarter of 2008, by just two individuals who are passionate about Beyond Budgeting and transformation, we regard the BBTN as "open for business" - and we feel that there is no better moment than "now", to join our network, to lead the movement in its start-up-phase and shape the movement and to make transformation real.
In February 2008, we wrote up a couple of principles of operation for BBTN directors, which we would at this point like to share with you. We hope that,
- if you are passionate about Beyond Budgeting, too, and
- if you look for a different perspective, a different provessional future for yourself and a different career, and
- if you identify with the below principles
12 out of our current set of 16 operating principles for the BBTN directors team:
- Nature: The network is composed of highly interdependent professionals, working as equals among equals (no hierarchy), no titles. All team members will own the title “Director”, not more.
- Team: Directors are part of a powerful, international, fun and energizing team composed of bright individuals.
- Leadership: All directors are leaders and expected to act as leaders. The team is an “all-leaders” team. Be part of a true leader's network.
- Roles: All directors are allowed to do all parts of the work and to assume different roles all the time. “Roles” within the team will never be fixed, but juggled with all the time.
- Structure: Directors will not be pressed into an existing structure, but the team will be always sculpted according to existing talent.
- Collaboration: Directors always try working in pairs or teams. The individual directors support each other in assignments and projects. No significant project or assignment will be executed by a single director. “Doubles” and “triples” will dominate, in practice.
- Interdependence: Directors give up part of their autonomy, voluntarily making themselves dependent from each other, professionally, and look for further opportunities for collaboration, constantly.
- Dedication: All directors generate a significant part of their income from work related to Beyond Budgeting.
- Focus: Put vision first, not economic interests. Individual short-term interests should always be made explicit and not have priority over the team‘s and network's long-term interest. We believe that research and practice (consulting) are linked, intimately.
- Language: The network's reach is global, thus the network language is English.
- Nomination: People can join the team at any point by indication from a director, and by consensus arising through a consultational process. Directors can also be made to leave, driven by a similar process.
- Meetings: Directors meet frequently, several times a year, to celebrate and work. There are regular meetings, agreed on at the end of every meeting, and also spontaneous meetings. There is no obligation to join every meeting.
